Gender equality is ‘critical ingredient’ in fight against poverty and hunger – UN agriculture chief

16 December 2016 – The fight against extreme poverty, hunger and malnutrition is not possible without gender equality and women empowerment, José Graziano da Silva, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), said  in Rome, where he called for more efforts to ensure that rural women, “the backbone of our work in agriculture,” enjoy a level playing field.


Suggestions

*Teachers should be given opportunity to conduct camps in village area to promote education of women in rural areas.
*Children should be shown equal love at home and school.
*Avoid partiality.

Solutions

*Gender equality help in the upliftment of women in all aspects.
*Offering quality and universal education to young girls promotes progress of society as a whole.
*Children of educated mothers are twice likely to survive past the age of 5.
*Increased participation in school reduces fertility rates over time.
*Equal access to education empower  women through boosting her earning capabilities and improve her participation in business and economic activity.
*Which help to combat against current and future poverty through feeding, clothing etc…
